Abstract

Objective: The objective of this research was to identify new entrepreneurship capacities and methods in the field of sports, along with the obstacles, challenges, and executive solutions associated with their development.

Methods: The research employed a combination of qualitative (thematic analysis) and quantitative (descriptive-hierarchical analysis) methods. For the qualitative part, data collection was carried out through purposeful and criteria-based sampling. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with specialists who had university education in sports management, sports entrepreneurship, sports development, as well as practitioners and experts in the executive field of sports. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.

Findings: The research identified six categories for new capacities and methods of sports entrepreneurship. These categories are as follows: 1) Innovative sports experiences and facilities: This category emphasizes the importance of creating unique and cutting-edge sports experiences and facilities to attract and engage athletes and spectators. 2) Integration of technology in sports: This category highlights the integration of technology, such as data analytics, virtual reality, and wearable devices, to enhance performance, training, and fan engagement in sports. 3) Services related to athletes and health: This category focuses on the development of services and products that cater to the physical and mental well-being of athletes, including sports medicine, sports psychology, and performance optimization. 4) Comprehensiveness of participation and learning: This category emphasizes the importance of inclusive participation in sports, providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to engage in physical activities and promoting lifelong learning through sports. 5) Managing and promoting sports events: This category addresses the effective management and promotion of sports events, including event planning, marketing, sponsorship, and fan engagement strategies. 6) Innovation in business and the sports industry: This category explores innovative approaches to business models, revenue generation, and partnerships within the sports industry, such as sports startups, sports technology, and e-sports.

Additionally, the research identified six categories for obstacles and challenges in the development of capacities and new methods of sports entrepreneurship: 1) Economic and financial obstacles: This category encompasses challenges related to funding, investment, profitability, and financial sustainability of sports entrepreneurial ventures. 2) Institutional and political issues: This category includes challenges arising from regulatory frameworks, government policies, and bureaucracy that may hinder the development of sports entrepreneurship. 3) Weak infrastructure and resources: This category addresses challenges related to inadequate sports facilities, limited resources, and lack of supportive infrastructure for sports entrepreneurship. 4) Cultural and related obstacles: This category focuses on challenges associated with social norms, cultural attitudes, and public awareness that may impact the acceptance and growth of sports entrepreneurship. 5) Neglecting talent and skills development: This category highlights the importance of identifying and nurturing talent, providing skill development programs, and fostering a supportive ecosystem for sports entrepreneurs. 6) Inappropriate use of local and natural resources: This category emphasizes the need for sustainable practices, responsible use of resources, and environmental considerations in sports entrepreneurship.

The results of the hierarchical analysis indicated that the component of "innovative sports experiences and facilities" was the most important category for the development of capacities and new methods of modern sports entrepreneurship. In terms of prioritizing challenges and obstacles, the hierarchical analysis revealed that the components of "institutional and political issues" and "economic and financial obstacles" were deemed the most significant by the experts.

Conclusion: The findings of this research demonstrate the diverse and dynamic nature of new entrepreneurship capacities and methods in the field of sports. Each identified category represents a unique approach to revitalizing and developing sports businesses, emphasizing the potential for innovation, economic growth, and community engagement. Addressing the obstacles and challenges identified in this research, along with implementing the executive solutions proposed, can contribute to the advancement of sports entrepreneurship and its positive impact on the sports industry and society as a whole.
